Agatized Wood Sterling Silver Pendant
Who would ever expect that a piece of petrified wood on a sterling silver pendant would look like this. This was once part of a living tree that was buried in sediments. Over time the organic matter was replaced by silica. In this actual piece of wood, the entire wood cell structure was replaced with agate after the wood decayed, leaving a chamber for the agate to settle. This form of petrified wood is actually referred to as agatized wood. This particular piece of agatized wood is from the Eocene (55.8-33.9 mya) and was located in the Green River Formation in Wyoming. While on vacation, I came across this piece of agatized wood, and I knew it would be an awesome focal point for someone to wear.
I set this handcrafted petrified wood pendant in an open setting by using three sterling silver prongs. The slightly rusticated sterling silver pendant is simple yet expressive, with the agatized wood as the center of attention.
This handcrafted, sterling silver, petrified wood pendant is 2" in length, including the bail, and 1 3/4" at its widest point. The sterling silver bail is large enough to fit most clasps. Wear this handmade petrified wood pendant on your favorite necklace, or purchase the optional black leather necklace with sterling silver clasp. You can make your selection when you add this hand forged pendant into your shopping cart.
Each piece of my handcrafted metal jewelry designs are stamped with my logo and my signature initials "DHR".
